mountains linking the regions of Arequipa, Cusco and Puno |

The
train system crosses the Andes descending from 4000 meters
on the high plateau of Puno and Juliaca to 2100 metres in
the highland forests (Machupicchu), and passes
spectacular scenery such as Lake Titicaca, Inter-Andean
valleys with exotic fauna and flora (vicuña, condor,
orchids, native trees etc.) and rivers, snowcapped peaks (Ausangate,
Salkantay) and picturesque villages on the
banks of the Vilcanota river and the Upper Urubamba |
